What affects the price of a dumpster rental

Each company prices its own way, so this page lists no figures. It explains what goes into a quote so you can compare two of them fairly.

What a quote is built from

  • Container sizeBigger boxes cost more to haul, but the jump between sizes is often smaller than the cost of a second trip.
  • Weight allowanceA set number of tons is usually included. Heavier loads are charged per extra ton once weighed.
  • Rental periodA quote covers a number of days. Ask what each extra day costs and how to arrange an early pickup.
  • Type of debrisClean concrete or soil, yard waste and mixed household junk may be priced differently because they go to different sites.
  • Distance and accessAn address far from the company's yard, or a tight spot that takes extra time, can change the figure.
  • PermitsStreet placement in Albany needs a city permit and possibly parking signs, each with its own fee. Ask who pays.
  • ExtrasMattresses, appliances, overfilled boxes or a wasted trip when the spot is blocked can each add a charge.

Comparing two quotes

  • Same size and same tonnage included?
  • Same number of rental days?
  • Delivery, pickup and disposal all in the figure?
  • Any fuel or environmental surcharge added later?
  • What is charged if the box can't be reached on pickup day?

The disposal site's own rates feed into prices too. In Albany, the state's notice on the city's planned Rapp Road transfer station puts the landfill's closure around 2027, so ask whether a quoted rate is good for the dates you need.

Book a roll-off for your Albany address

Pick up the phone with three things in mind: the debris, the drop spot and your dates. A locally run, independent roll-off company picks up, recommends a container and quotes a drop-off day and a total.

This number is for rentals, not trash pickup. Albany's regular trash and recycling are handled by the city's Department of General Services.
