Dumpster rental in Troy
Troy is strict about what goes to the curb. Its public works department doesn't pick up construction or demolition debris at all, and suggests a dumpster company instead.
Booking hours: Monday to Saturday 8 to 8, Sunday 8 to 1 (Eastern time)

Not collected by the city
- Construction and demolition material: set out at the curb, it counts as illegal disposal
- Dirt, rocks and sand
- Bricks and cinder blocks
- Concrete
That list comes from the city's bulk trash page. Hazardous waste and electronics aren't taken in bulk pickup either.
When a container is the answer
Any remodel, porch rebuild or plaster tear-out in a Troy rowhouse leaves exactly the debris the city refuses. So does a backyard patio removal. For those, the container is the legal way out.
For brick, block or concrete, ask for a small box and a clean-load price; heavy debris tips.
The barricade permit
Troy's Code Enforcement barricade permit application lists dumpsters as a reason to apply, with a note that it covers clean-outs only and that rehab work needs a separate permit. The form says barricade fees are charged monthly.
Questions go to Buildingpermits@troyny.gov or 518-687-1140. Ask whether your placement needs it before the delivery date.
One sofa, not a houseful
For a single bulky item, Troy's scheduled bulk pickup may do. It's by appointment only through the DPW dispatcher at 518-270-4579, and items can't go out before 6 p.m. the night before.
Book a roll-off for your Albany address
Pick up the phone with three things in mind: the debris, the drop spot and your dates. A locally run, independent roll-off company picks up, recommends a container and quotes a drop-off day and a total.
This number is for rentals, not trash pickup. Albany's regular trash and recycling are handled by the city's Department of General Services.
