Dumpster for a roof tear-off
If your roofer isn't hauling the old shingles away, you'll need a container that can take the weight. Shingles are dense, and a second layer underneath doubles the load.
Booking hours: Monday to Saturday 8 to 8, Sunday 8 to 1 (Eastern time)

Two numbers decide the size
Squares
Roofers measure in squares, each covering 100 square feet. Get the count from the estimate and pass it on when you call.
Layers
One layer of shingles or two? The second layer roughly doubles the weight, and sometimes means a second container or a swap partway through.
With both figures, the company can say whether a 10, 15 or 20-yard box keeps you within the weight allowance.
Placement for a roof job
Put the container as close to the eave as the truck can reach so shingles can drop or slide straight in. Shrubs and flower beds below the drop zone take a beating; cover them or accept some damage.
Many older houses around the Capital Region have steep roofs and only a narrow side yard below. Measure that strip before the delivery day.

Ask before the tear-off starts
- How many tons are included, and the charge per ton above that
- Whether tar paper, flashing and old gutters can go in with the shingles
- Whether a separate box for metal is worth it
- Whether a full box can be swapped quickly so the crew isn't idle
On a street-only lot in the city, a container needs a permit. Albany permit steps.
Book a roll-off for your Albany address
Pick up the phone with three things in mind: the debris, the drop spot and your dates. A locally run, independent roll-off company picks up, recommends a container and quotes a drop-off day and a total.
This number is for rentals, not trash pickup. Albany's regular trash and recycling are handled by the city's Department of General Services.
