Dumpster for moving or downsizing
A move is the moment to stop carrying things you don't use. Plan the container around the moving truck so the two never compete for the driveway.
Booking hours: Monday to Saturday 8 to 8, Sunday 8 to 1 (Eastern time)

A simple timeline
Three or four weeks out
Walk the house with three labels: moving, giving away, discarding. Book the container once you can see the discard pile growing.
The week before
Have the box delivered. Fill it with the worn furniture, broken items and boxes of papers you have already sorted.
Two days before the truck
Schedule pickup so the driveway is clear for the movers.
Renters and apartment buildings
Albany's own trash service covers residential buildings with four or fewer units (city rules). In a larger building, the landlord's private hauler handles trash, and a container on the lot needs the owner's agreement.
Leaving an apartment? Ask the landlord before renting anything. Some would rather arrange a box themselves after you move out.
Usually better elsewhere than in the box
- Furniture in decent shape: offer it to a charity pickup or a neighbor
- A single mattress or sofa: city bulk pickup after a call ahead
- Electronics: General Services drop-off on Conners Boulevard
- Appliances: city white-goods pickup by appointment
What's left is what the container is for. A 15 or 20-yard box covers most apartment-to-house or house-to-condo moves.
Book a roll-off for your Albany address
Pick up the phone with three things in mind: the debris, the drop spot and your dates. A locally run, independent roll-off company picks up, recommends a container and quotes a drop-off day and a total.
This number is for rentals, not trash pickup. Albany's regular trash and recycling are handled by the city's Department of General Services.
