Dumpster for yard waste and landscaping
Leaves and clippings can usually wait for the city or town pickup. A container makes sense when you are pulling out hedges, clearing an overgrown lot or regrading a yard.

What the city takes, and what it doesn't
In Albany, yard waste for city collection goes out in biodegradable paper bags at the curb the evening before your collection day (city FAQ). That works for a weekend of raking.
It doesn't work for root balls, stumps, a row of overgrown yews or a pile of sod. Those are what a rented container is for.
Green waste by weight
- Branches and brushLight and springy. Cut long limbs so they lie flat, or the box fills with air.
- Leaves and clippingsLight when dry, much heavier after rain.
- Sod and topsoilVery heavy. Treat it like dirt: small box, partial fill.
- Stumps and root ballsSome companies refuse them or charge more because of the soil attached. Ask first.
Keep the load clean
Some companies take green waste to a compost or mulch site and want nothing else mixed in: no bags, no lumber, no trash. A clean load may also be priced differently from mixed debris.
If you're also tearing out old landscape timbers or a fence, say so; treated wood is often handled separately.

Book a roll-off for your Albany address
Pick up the phone with three things in mind: the debris, the drop spot and your dates. A locally run, independent roll-off company picks up, recommends a container and quotes a drop-off day and a total.
This number is for rentals, not trash pickup. Albany's regular trash and recycling are handled by the city's Department of General Services.
